"I write from real life. I am an unrepentant eavesdropper and a collector of stories. I record bits of overheard dialogue."

Adichie was one of Foreign Policy's "Top Global Thinkers of 2013."

She grew up in famous Nigerian writer Chinua Achebe's house. Adichie believed that his "halo surrounded her" and he had a huge influence in her writing.

Adichie is very confident of her work and embraces all of its global influences about Africa. At an interview, Adichie admits to her second novel Half of a Yellow Sun being "better than Gone with the Wind..." after Swedish film critic Jannike Åhlund compared the novel to a "Nigerian Gone with the Wind."

When talking to Åhlund about her novel being a movie (about 15 minutes in), Adichie's sense of humor shines when she explains her first impression of the film: "When I watched [Half of a Yellow Sun] the first time, twenty minutes in, I was thinking, 'what's going to happen next?' And then I remembered I wrote the book."
